The values of a community are reflected in the care they have for their vulnerable. Heidelberg is blessed with several charity organisations that do a tremendous amount of work to care for the community. Heidelberg Hope is involved on many levels in the caring of the elderly, weak, sick and homeless.
Due to our location on the edge of Gauteng, the need for a volunteer emergency medical service was realised over the years where the community on several occasions had to step in and assist those in desperate need for medical help. It sometimes takes over an hour for an ambulance to arrive purely due to the isolated location when it comes to medical services.
The Heidelberg Medical First responders have been filling this gap for the last 12 years but depend heavily on the contributions from the community to sustain their services. It is seldom that the people in help have access to a medical aid of funds.
